Josh Heinrichs' Cover of English Legends, Aswad

Earlier this month GanJah Recording artist, Josh Heinrichs, toured the Southeastern USA with Jimmie Haha from the MTV Nationally acclaimed band, Jimmies Chicken Shack as well as East Coast stalwarts, Groove Stain & Florida's own heavy dubbers, Ovni Sound System, who combined to make a killer backing band for Josh. During the tour, Josh had a day off and was fortunate enough to hit "Full Wave Recording Studios" for a compilimentary recording session with the bands. Josh decided to put the 2 piece horn section and full backing band to use on one of his favorite classic reggae songs, "Your Recipe" by English reggae legends, Aswad.

Gentleman & SOJA will be performing live at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston, February 12, 2011. DO NOT waste time in getting your tickets, this show will sell out! I don't even know the last time Gentleman was on the East Coast, and there's no telling when he'll be back. If there's one thing both of these artists are known for beyond their quality music, it's their outstanding live performances that put all other acts to shame. I cannot wait!
Tickets go on sale Friday, December 17th. This will be one show you do not want to miss out on.

Gentleman | "See Dem Coming"

Gentleman ft. Alborosie | "Celebration"

Note the Rudeboy Reggae shirt that SOJA's Bobby Lee is rockin around min - 1:45, designed by Rudeboy Reggae's own, Ras Jess.

The most surprising comeback artist, in my opinion, as we round out the last few weeks of 2010 is Perfect, aka "Mr. Perfect." I say "comeback" because I've never really liked him. I obviously got on the Hand Cart Boy bandwagon when that track came out years ago - and during that time he also had a handful of good singles in circulation as well - but since then, I haven't been into Perfect at all.

The first single I heard in recent past from Perfect that I found to be super good was off of the Jah Protect Riddim - Work Hard. It's lyrically sound, and his unique, often annoying voice plays into the sound really well.

The second track, which was just released by Cut Stone Productions on the Ghetto Stream Riddim that I posted earlier, is Perfect's Tax Extortion. Again, lyrically top-notch and the head-bobbing, uplifiting rhythm works well with his voice.

Lastly, to bring it all home for me is this new single: Congratulations off the La Familia Riddim produced by Dynasty Records. It's more  along the lines of heavy, dancehall/hip-hop roots, but plays really hard. Its a sort of welcome back song, where Perfect is celebrating his return to the airwaves after a long hiatus. Hopefully we continue to see this sort of production from Mr. Perfect in 2011.

The Latest From Cut Stone Records

Introducing the Ghetto Stream Riddim from Cut Stone Records. Cut Stone is an up-and-coming US label which sprouts from Green Lion Crew. Past releases include the Rhyme Stone and Rain Wata Riddims. All three rhythms in the Cut Stone name are solid - each draws from subtle hip-hop and roots influences. While the majority of artists under the label are nothing to brag about in terms of lyrics and delivery, the likings of Chezidek and Kali Blaxx tend to deliver every time. The dark horse on this rhythm, who I believe takes the crown on this production is the unknown, Ras Myrhda, with "Jah Love."

Ghetto Stream Riddim | Mix: Jah-Love

Chezidek - More Trees
Kali Blaxx - Hold Di Faith
Perfect - Tax Extortion
Ras Myrhda - Jah Love

Stephen & Damian Marley - 'Jah Army'

A big tune from the Marley brothers, 'Jah Army,' on the General Penitentiary Riddim - a rhythm that's been remastered and remixed a number of times, this being the most recent. This track is a classic Stephen-Damian collaboration. RUN IT!

J Boog & Don Corleon Link Up Again!

If you don't know J Boog by now, get to know him. I've been a huge J Boog fan for a few years now, as he's been doing his underground thing. Finally, in recent past, Don Corleon got his hands on him and has taken J Boog under his wing. This is J Boog's most recent single from D.C. Records, Waiting On The Rain.. an absolute hit.

J Boog | Waiting On The Rain

J Boog | Love Season

J Boog | Aye OK

J Boog | Let's Do It Again

New, Big Culture Tune From Don Corleon

Looks like J Boog got his boy Fiji in the mix with Don Corleon - here's a brand new, BIG culture tune: Peetah Morgan ft. Fiji,"Rock and Come In."

Remember, you can download any music on this site that is played through DivShare. Just click "share," then "download," to enjoy any of this music on your iTunes at any time.

Throwback Jam: The LaLaBella Riddim

I think this has to be one of my all time favorite rhythms. Until recently, I never knew what it was called. And to be honest, I kind of forgot about it all together until recently. What reminded of this rhythm and how much I like it is the Sizzla, Like Mountains remix which I stumbled across on YouTube a week or two ago. This remix is guaranteed to get your feet moving.

This rhythm is an old one, for sure. I believe it came out in '95, and has a ton of old artists on it. The only two tracks I really like are Tony Rebel, with Why Be Afraid, and Everton Blender, with Ghetto People. Both are HUGE tunes! It's really a shame this rhythm isn't remastered and showcased with some newer artists, because it bumps so hard, and could definitely use the vocal chords of some of today's biggest singers.

LaLaBella Riddim | Mix: Jah-Love

Jah Protect Riddim - November 2010

A new, super conscious rhythm from the up-and-coming record label, Young Veterans. There are two fire tunes on this collection - the first is by one of my favorite artists, Konshens, with his track Watch Me Fada. The second tune (which comes last on this mix) is Work Hard by Perfect, an artist who I seldom enjoy. Both these artists absolutely kill it here lyrically, something I've come to expect from Konshens, but certainly not from Perfect.

Jah Protect Riddim | Mix: Jah-Love

Konshens - Watch Me Fada
Patexx - Jah Will Never
Christopher Martin - As I Walk Away
Maverick - Keep Working
Perfect - Work Hard

Eyes On My Purpose Riddim

My last post from a few days ago showcased Spectacular's new single, "I wish," which comes to us off the Eyes On My Purpose Riddim. Still not sure if this rhythm comes from Irie Ites Records or not, but I'm pretty sure it does, especially considering all these artists on the rhythm are signed to that label.

Check out the Eyes On My Purpose Riddim mix below: Black Warrior starts off with a his track, Warrior, which has a real mean hook. Second is Lutan Fyah with, Cut It Out, and lastly is the man who kills this rhythm, Spectacular, with his new single, I Wish.

The Elusive Talents of Spectacular

Spectacular has been a long time favorite artist of mine. His rich, powerful and energetic voice is an unmistakable one that continues to deliver on every tune I hear from him. The only problem is, is that Spectacular is found on rhythms few and far between, and I believe he only has one album out. The reason, I do not know. I would be all over this guy if I were a producer. He has the capability of murdering any sound.

This video is of Spectacular on the new, "Eyes On My Purpose Riddim." His track is called, I Wish. I believe the rhythm comes from Irie Ites Records.

I think this tune is another perfect example of Spectacular's talents. I hope we get to see more of this guy in the future.

Ifficially The Hottest Riddim This Fall!

I've been hyping up this riddim release for a while now, and finally, a week or so ago, the Ifficial Riddim hit the ground running. With solid performances by just about every artist listed, this is no doubt one of Itation Records' biggest drops. I'll personally put this one right up next to (just below actually) Itation's Higher Meditation Riddim as my favorite release from them. I would have liked to see as many big names on this rhythm as that one had. I think if it did, the two would be in fierce competition for the up-and-coming record label's hottest riddim yet.

This mix below are my favorite tracks on the rhythm: Bescenta, who seldom shows his face, but when he does, he makes sure you know here's there, with "Your Love." Kali Blaxx with "Backyard," which is a song that grows on you for sure. I didn't like it at first, because of Kali's unique, sometimes annoying, voice, but the more you listen to it, the more you find yourself singing it to yourself in yourhead throughout the day. Anthony B comes HUUUGE  on this riddim, straight out of the reggae artist graveyard,  with his track, "Outta Road." Play this tune at any party, see if you don't get everyone dancing.  Lastly, new artist, Monsoon, does well with "Jah." I'm super interested to see some more work from this guy, and see what Itation can do with his talent and voice.

Be sure to rep this rhythm. This comes from one of my favorite production groups, Itation Records. It's always exciting to see what they come out with next. Big up to Tune In Crew as well - they were a huge collab on this rhythm.

Konshens - Showing Us That Versatility is the Key to Success

Konshens is one of my favorite artists today because of his ability to come strong, lyrically and passionately, on any rhythm. The first track is his  new single off the "Feel So Good Riddim," titled, "Who Jah Bless" - a more low key tune, while the second track is a heavier, dancehall/roots song. "Crossfire" is a much more hard-hitting single, where Konshens, as always, comes with a lot of energy. Be sure to keep an ear to the street for this guy as he continues to climb his way to the top of reggae stardom.

Bost & Bim Productions Present: The Hustlin' Riddim

My personal jam of the summer was J Boog's "Coldest Zone" off of Bost & Bim's latest release, "The Hustlin' Riddim." With back up vocals from the one and only Peetah Morgan - one of Reggae's most powerful, influential and memorable voices - this new single from the rising J Boog hit heavy and guarantees to make your feet move!

Here's a sneak peak behind the scenes with Bost & Bim and the production of J Boog's new single:

Major Lazer & Jah Dan

This is my favorite track off Major Lazer's new album, "Guns Don't Kill People, Lazers Do." This is Jah Dan with "Cash Flow."

I recently just saw Jah Dan perform at Club Metronome in Burlington, VT. He sticks mostly to Dub Step and Dancehall, but there's no doubt that this track above highlights his abilities to deliver strong on any reggae or roots rhythm. I wish he would stick to more of this kind of vibe...

Dream Dayz Riddim

Young Veterans Productions recently introduced their newest rhythm, "The Dream Dayz Riddim." Artists featured include: Bugle, Cutty Corn, Dario, Perfect, Fyakin, Geoffrey Star, Hyah Slyce, Maverick, Mitch, Nico D, Sheba, Teflon and Spanner Banner - a plethora of dancehall artists, who all come strong on this heavy hitting dancehall-roots rhythm. Below is a quick mix of my three favorite tracks on this collection, Hyah Slyce with "Pressure We Bare," Fyakin with "Oyeh No," and Cutty Corn (an artist I've never heard of until this track) with "Dreaming."

Introducing the easiest way to get a hold of the hottest and most up-to-date rhythms in both reggae and dancehall: It's like YouTube, but strictly dedicated to reggae and dancehall videos and music. Check it out.

The Latest From Tarrus

My all-time favorite artist -- yes, that's right, I said ALL-TIME -- Tarrus Riley is back with a new roots track on the Rebellion Riddim titled, "Poverty Nuh Inna Fashion."I cannot get enough Tarrus innah mi life! While I do prefer his modern-roots music, he is a very versatile artist and will dominate any rhythm, whether it be roots, modern-roots, dancehall, hip-hop roots, etc.

Below is a mix from BMC that I just came accross. I haven't listened to it yet, so I don't know how good the quality is, but it's titled "Tarrus Riley & Friends," so if you don't know much about the man, this mix is a  MUST LISTEN. On it is every single one of his hits...

Introducting: Ras Penco

Hailing from Riversdale, St. Cathrine, Ras Penco has recently been stirring up some commotion with his new chart-topping single, "Thousand Miles." With his debut album due out soon, Ras Penco has also released two other singles: "Be By My Side" and "Most High." While the latter is more of a dancehall-roots track, the first two singles are more along the lines of catchy, almost popp-ish tunes, but still very good nonetheless.

Another From Gyptian

Gyptian's track, "She's My Lady," on the new Slaata Riddim, is another smooth, low-key tune from the vocally gifted Jamaican artist. Making himself busy these days, with the recent release of his third album, "Hold You," Gyptian delivers strong on this new tune:

Finally Home

Back after a six month hiatus, and returning with a fresh, new look! A lot of good music has been produced during my absence, and there's no way I could try and play catch up. However, what I can do is start us off with two brand new singles from two great artists who have been on their own respective hiatuses for some time. These are two of my favorite singles out right now: "More Life" by Gyptian and "Mother Love" by I-Wayne.

Be sure to stay up to date with the Rudeboy blog - I'm finally back in the states and finally getting busy in the music scene again..
