The Message Riddim

Don Corleon is back (as if he ever left) with another hit rhythm. This one comes with a very similar vibe as DC's "Changes Riddim," "Major/Minor Riddim, " etc. Though his newest riddim, The Message Riddim, is arguably lacking the same heavy weight artists as the previously mentioned releases, his protege artists no doubt hold their own on this one - including the up and coming Protoje, who is highlighted in a post a few days earlier.

I think the first track on this mix, "Wicked Heart" by Jah Vinci is the single to take home off of this album - great lyrics and a wicked hook.

Jah Vinci - "Wicked Heart"
Pressure - "Jah Love"
Ky-Mani Marley - "Brave Ones"
IKaya - "Fly Away"
Richie Spice - "Got To Make It"
Protoje - "Take Control"

Yard Vybz Presents:

The Captain Riddim. Released late this month, this heavy, roots rhythm has a very distinct new-school feel. Not a jam for the dancehall, but is catchy in its own unique fashion. The three top-dog singers that are showcased no doubt play a pivotal role in making this rhythm what it is.

Sizzla - "Murder Star"
Tarrus Riley - "Soul Grabber"
Jah Cure - "Feel It"

Drake Wants to do Reggae?

Drake admitted in an interview a week or so ago on Canadian television network, MunchMusic, that he may start working on a few reggae singles as soon as he finishes his European tour. Keep an ear out for any progress on this news in the near future. Could be an interesting direction and area for Drake to explore..

"It was just tonight I was talking to Julian (Marley), mi bredrin from back-a-yaad, and I was like yo I wanna do something for Jamaica, because we are supposed to go out there and record after the European tour," Drake said. "I was like send me some rhythms that are poppin and I'll see what I can do. He sent me some rhythms that are poppin, so I'll see what I can do. You never know."

New Tarrus Single

Chimney Records presents the Island Vibes Riddim. With a cast list of a number of big, up and coming names, Tarrus, who has solidified himself as one of Reggae's biggest voices, takes the crown with his single off this rhythm set, "Never Leave I."

My Journey Riddim

The Journey Riddim is a new, low key culture rhythm featuring the likings of Gyptian and Nezbeth, as well as up and coming artists such as Singer Jah and Ras Penco. My favorite track is by far Gyptian with "Trodding On." His unique voice, which can sometimes be unattractive on certain tracks works perfectly with the melody and vibe of this new rhythm. And the message behind the lyrics is encouraging as well.

Gyptian | Trodding On

Nezbeth: "Can't Waste My Time"
Ras Penco: "Life A No Bed A Rose"

Achis Reggae 'Awards' 2010

Now that 2010 has has come and gone - sadly, as it was one hell of a year - its important to look back at all that was in reggae/dancehall music. I couldn't do it half as well as this guy, so I'll save myself the effort and give you the link to check out Achis' "Completely Random Thoughts of 2010," in which he summarizes the greatest and worst moments, artists, records, labels, etc., of 2010. Check it out HERE.

And, taking us into 2011 is Lutan Fyah with "Ras Always," on the Natty Riddim, produced by Charlie's Records - a super ras track (no pun intended).
