Introducing: Alific

Hailing from Washington D.C., Brendan Dane, aka Alific, is a Reggae/Rock/Dub artist and producer, who released his debut album, Dub in the District about 2 years back. It was just recently, however, that I was introduced to this artist, as he's now gearing up to release his sophomore album this April.

What I like most about Alific is that his music encompasses a wide variety of sounds and styles -- you can pick out a number of different instruments and tempos in each song that all seem to come together really nicely. Oh, and I should probably mention that all of his album (aside from one track, No Workin) is instrumentals. I would say that Dub in the District is a progressive take on Reggae/Dub music. You can tell Alific doesn't hold himself accountable to any one musical genre, and that he really embraces the creative freedoms that music offers. My favorite track off of his album would have to be Sun Roots (above). I really dig the Sublime influences here, most prominent with the drums, and the guitar and sax riffs.

Keep a look out for Alific's newest album, Echoes from the Soul, which is slated to be released in April.
