Introduction: Soom T

Guess it really is all about the female artists this month. Was just shown this really really unique artist, Soom T yesterday by a friend. One of the most distinguished sounds I have heard. She is an Indian artist from Scotland that fuses "Roots Reggae, Hip hop, Folk, Electronic and Dub genres with various experimentations centred around activist intent, spiritual enlightenment, soul evolution and unique sound wave generation and manipulation utilizing the voice, word power, rhythm & melody for inner cosmic tremor inducement." I guess that translates to she makes some pretty far out music. Definitely a style of her own but I must say that I am a fan. Enjoy and you can check her out on Facebook or iTunes

"Playground" is one of the best tracks off of Major Lazer's most recent album Free the Universe. The mix of dancehall, hip hop and reggae is spot on. Be sure to check out the remixes, and rest of the album on iTunes.

Single Spotlight: Collie Buddz - "Herb Tree" & "Mary Jane"

Just in case you haven't heard these gems from Collie Buddz!

Introduction: Keida

For some reason, Rudeboy Reggae writers are into the female artists these days (ie. Majic and Eli-Mac).  And I'm going to keep that trend going with a Jamaican that I've been catching up on recently.  Keida initially blew up in 2010 with the single, "Jamaican Boy" but it is her recent "Stand Up For Something" that caught my attention.  For the last three years she has been very dancehall oriented — and done well — but I really thought she impressed on her latest roots single.  I'd love to hear more from her in this style, but we'll have to wait and see!  Here are a few tracks of hers to see what you think..

Introduction: Majic

Recently I stumbled upon a couple tracks from a dope new female artist hailing from Aotearoa, Majic. At only 17 years old, she has got some great potential and I can't wait to hear her debut EP or Album. Until then, enjoy two of my favorite songs from her and check out more of her story and the rest of her music on her reverberation page. Respect!

Rebelution, Zion I Collaborations

Bay Area hip hop legends Zion I have teamed up with fellow Cali natives and tour partners Rebelution for a great remix of "Safe and Sound" as well as an original called "Many Stylez." The combination of underground rap and reggae is a hit, and I hope they continue to team up on tracks. Also be sure to check out Zion I for quality rap music on iTunes!

DJ Big Dog - Inna Da Yard

Check out DJ Big Dog's latest mix, Inna Da Yard.  The Vermont-based DJ impresses with a fresh hour long mix of some of 2013's biggest tunes.  I love the way Big Dog mixes!  He doesn't go overboard with effects, keeping it clean and fluid.  Additionally, any mix that starts off with Raging Fyah is good by me.

Check out his other mixes on Mixcloud.  And anyone who happens to be in Burlington, VT, make sure to check out Big Dog every Sunday night at Nectar's for his legendary Mi Yard Reggae Night.

Introduction: Eli-Mac - Dub Stop

Stoked to introduce one of the most bad ass female reggae artists I have heard, Eli-Mac (Pronounced "Ellee-Mak"). She has just released her debut single "Dub Stop" which fuses some heavy roots with her captivating vocals. I really love how different she sounds than many other female artists within the genre, setting her own style and a brand that I am sure we will all get familiar with. Don't let that cover art fool you though, she has got some serious vibes flowing. Much respect & can't wait to see what else she has in store! Make sure to support and purchase her music on ITUNES and check her out on Facebook or Twitter

Still can't get over these ridiculous vocals from Sammy J. Big ups to Brian for sharing the music!

2013 RudeboyReggae.com Awards

2013 was an absolutely incredible year for reggae music. Legendary albums were dropped, unforgettable live shows were performed, and the genre as a whole perhaps received more exposure than it ever has. Before we continue another year of sharing music here at RudeboyReggae.com, we wanted to take a look back at 2013 and give some recognition to all those that we felt made the year so special. Lastly, we wanted to send a HUGE shoutout to all the bands, artists, dj's, producers, labels, industry personnel, blogs, websites, magazines, radio stations, and especially fans who continue to perpetuate reggae music, its message, and its vibe!
