Rudeboy Reggae Interview With New Kingston

Had the chance to catch up with the boys of New Kingston for their recent shows in Hawaii. Check out the interview above and don't miss these guys on tour starting today with Tribal Seeds (also check out New Kingston's feature on Tribal Seed's new single "Fill It Up") throughout March! Having been performing since they were kids, these three brothers know exactly what their doing on a stage. Most impressive for me is New Kingston's hybrid sound that seamlessly fuses the Jamaican and American styles together into the perfect blend of contemporary reggae. One of the bands that caught me off guard and certainly will be making a name quickly for themselves in the genre. Check out more from these guys at newkingstonmusic.com. Big ups and can't wait to see whats in store for NK!

The Grouch and Eligh - People of the Sun (feat. Kyle of Slightly Stoopid)

The Grouch and Eligh are Bay area rappers that often collaborate with well known and reggae influenced Zion I. "People of the Sun" is a track of their latest album The Tortoise and the Crow. The song features a mellow vibe and vocals from  Kyle of Slightly Stoopid. Check out the full album that is available on iTunes.

Tarrus Riley Album: Love Situation

After being released almost two weeks ago, this should be old news to everyone at this point!  However, after being busy following this man on tour for the last month, it's time for Rudeboy Reggae to officially spread the word about the legend, Tarrus Riley, and his new album, Love Situation!  Riley's fifth full-length album certainly lives up to the justified hype that is created with each of his projects, however, is unique from the others in that it is strictly Lover's Rock/Rocksteady Reggae.  This could be quite the stretch to change styles for an entire album, but with a voice like Tarrus' and a talented team of producers behind him — namely Dean Fraser — it seems to have been done with ease.

Unfortunately, the "Love Situation Tour" is coming to an end, but as anyone that made it to a show can attest, this is a must-see live performance!  With Tarrus bringing tons of energy on the vocals, The Blak Soil Band killing it as usual, and the unreal bonus of having Dean Fraser along side, it is impossible to not be impressed.  I strongly suggest that everyone should keep an eye out for future tour dates near you!

Preview and buy the album on iTunes.  And make sure to check out Rudeboy Reggae's Instagram HERE for some photos of his recent shows!

Mighty Mystic Releases "Concrete World"

Known as one of the leaders of the East Coast Reggae scene for close to a decade, Mighty Mystic has worked hard to earn that label.  After his debut album (Wake up the World) released in 2010, he has toured all over spreading his message and perfecting his craft.  I saw him back in 2010, and was completely surprised.  I then saw him in 2013, on tour with Morgan Heritage and it confirmed what I had thought to be true:  he's the real deal.  Finally, he dropped his sophomore album this January and it's as impressive as expected.  Concrete World proves that Mighty Mystic is here to stay.  From first track to last, this album is pure quality, with a diverse enough sound to avoid monotony.  In a year that is expecting a lot from Reggae albums, it's off to a great start thanks to Mighty Mystic.

Happy Birthday Nesta Marley

Gotta send out a happy birthday to Nesta Marley. Today we remember one of the most revolutionary human beings to ever walk the planet. From the humblest of beginnings to the heights of fame, he never strayed from his values and always stayed true to what he believed in. When I think of him and what he has done for our world, I am inspired to make a positive change, as are the millions and millions of others throughout time and across the planet, black white christian muslim man woman poor rich, who follow in his footsteps. Today, I remember that he too was once a boy who had to overcome mountains of adversity to become the man he knew he could be and achieve the goals that he had always envisioned. Without his strength, perseverance, and dedication to succeed, who knows what the world would be like today. I know my life would be different. Thank you Mr. Marley for giving myself and so many others the chance to be a part of something that has and continues to leave a positive legacy for humanity on this earth. Most importantly, thanks for sharing your music with the world. It will live forever.

Hip Hop Homage: Kendrick Lamar

Gotta give it up to this guy, Kendrick Lamar. Powerful lyrics and some vicious flow. Im sure plenty of you have heard his more popular songs, but its gems like the ones below that are what make me really dig his music. Just like reggae, his music emanates truth and a fearless perception of reality. Its hard not to admire his dedication to being himself and being real, a tricky thing I would imagine to do at his level of music. But you better believe he's working with the best, Dr. Dre's Aftermath & Interscope Record Label, who seem to be doing a good job at supporting his creativity and musical design. Respect!
