New Single: Stephen Marley, "Rockstone"

"Cold ground was my bed last night, and rock was my pillow, too."
- Bob Marley, Talkin' Blues

In his latest single, "Rockstone," from his forthcoming album, "Revelation Part II: The Fruit of Life," Stephen Marley gives a subtle nod to one of his father's best, lesser-known songs, "Talkin' Blues." And what a nod it is -- just Stephen Marley at his finest, really. Featuring the talents of modern reggae greats, Capleton and Sizzla voicing over a rootsy, hip-hop riddim, I have a feeling this song is sure to be a banger.

There are two things that really strike me with this song. The first is that Sizzla has finally put forth a quality vocal performance on something. I actually like him a lot on this record -- I'm having flashbacks to some of the hard hitting hip-hop-style music he was putting out back in the early 2000's --  which is contrary to how I've felt about anything he's touched for the past couple years. And secondly, the obvious thing to call out is Stephen's dubstep verse at the end of this track. We heard a lot of this dubstep influence on the somewhat recent Legend REMIXED album, which was largely produced by Stephen. So I'm left to wonder if we should expect to hear more of a dubstep presence on his upcoming album. I guess we'll have to see.
